Running for those who can’t: my fourth Wings for Life charity run
On 5 May, I took part in the Wings for Life charity run (the app version) for the fourth time, and it was another unforgettable experience. The thought of thousands of runners around the world joining together for a good cause and running at the same time is remarkable. From the start to the moment the chaser car catches up with you (you can read about this on the Wings for Life website), you can feel the energy and enthusiasm for this event. And the cheers from the virtual coaches are funny and helpful – a real incentive.
What makes this run so unique is not only the athletic challenge, but above all the purpose behind it. Every step we ran supported research into curing spinal cord injuries. And that’s something we should all believe in: the hope of progress and a cure for those who need it most.
But this run wasn’t just a moment to reflect on the importance of our efforts, it was also a call to action. Next year, I hope even more people will sign up and participate. Because the more of us that get involved, the greater our ability to make a change and improve lives.
So, whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out, consider joining the Wings for Life charity run next year. Even if you just sign up and don’t run – that’s fine! One hundred per cent of your entry fee will still go to spinal cord research.
This year, 1,578 wheelchair users took part and 265,818 people ran worldwide. We raised a total of 8.1 million euros for spinal cord research! Not bad for a sunny run through the forest, right?
Together we can make a difference and give many people more hope for a better future. It’s totally worth it. Join in – on 04 May 2025!
